Flat roofs are often unsightly and blight the view from corporate office space and client facing areas. Here is how Premier Planters have recently transformed roof terraces with both live and replica planting:
The first project shown here involved the creation of a replica buxus hedge to surround a patio area outside a top floor conference suite. The original view was a typical unsightly flat roof and the height of the hedge was calculated to screen this without obscuring the background view to the hills.
Despite this roof terrace being exposed to severe storm-force winds, the installation team designed an effective anchor system, without the need to penetrate the roof membrane.
Premier Planters were tasked by an elite fashion label to design and install a terrace planting and seating scheme for their SW1 HQ, achieving a careful balance between contemporary design, corporate compliance and sustainability.
Roof terraces are notorious for extreme weather and specifying a scheme to meet all these criteria was challenging but successfully achieved by careful application of our expertise.
The scheme was such a success that we are currently specifying additional planting, not only for these terraces but also for the roof terraces of a sister company in the same building.
EC2 is a penthouse roof terrace in the City of London. Again, the exterior plants had a dual purpose – to screen the view of some ugly neighbouring rooftops and add a tranquil Mediterranean feel to an ‘al fresco’ breakout area.
Despite a limited budget and a relatively tight delivery deadline, Premier Planters were able to enhance this bleak decked roof terrace and create the desired aura for what will be a relaxation area enjoyed by staff, especially throughout the summer months. The scheme also looks great both from the floors above and the road below.
